We can never prepare for everything that life will throw at us. However, we can learn strategies to better help us change what is within our control and cope with what isn’t.
Being vulnerable is scary – whether this is your first time seeking therapy or you’ve been before. I want to ensure that you feel comfortable, and I strive to provide an empathic, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where we can comfortably explore what you are wrestling with and your goals.
I believe that a positive client-therapist relationship built on mutual respect and honesty is essential for effective intervention and meaningful growth.
Training, Experience, and Background
Julia received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan School of Social Work and is a NYS LMSW. During graduate school, Julia provided individual therapy, psychoeducation, and case management services to children, adolescents, and adults in outpatient primary care and Ob-Gyn clinics. Julia has completed a course in CBT for Anxiety at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and attended the IOCDF Annual OCD Conference.
Prior to becoming a therapist, Julia graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where she majored in Psychology and minored in both Medical Anthropology and Fine Arts.
Her studies drove home the connections between mental and physical health, as well as the disparities in health, opportunity, and support that are a direct result of our society’s structure and history.
After graduating with her B.A., Julia worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center coordinating care for patients, running clinics, and providing support and education to patients and their families. This experience grounded Julia in holistic, client-centered care.
Julia will work with you to identify your strengths and determine what you want to get out of therapy. Her approach to therapy is unique to each client, and she utilizes an eclectic approach that combines multiple evidence-based therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Ask us anything — wherever you are in the therapy process, we’re here to listen!
