GROUP THERAPY IN NEW YORK CITY

Knowing that you are not alone can be incredibly powerful.

So can sharing your challenges and successes with others who are going through the same thing.

Have you ever been down on yourself and thought, “no one else has to suffer with this”? Or maybe you know you’re not alone and yet you don’t know anyone who has the same problem? In either case, going through a difficult challenge can feel pretty isolating.

At Collaborative CBT, we have a frequently rotating variety of groups — each one created based on the needs of our clients. If we don’t have a group for your particular need, we are always happy to look into forming one. That’s why it’s so important for you to reach out and let us know what you need.

You may be wondering ...

» Do I need group therapy?

Group therapy can be used in addition to your individual work or it can be something you do on it’s own. Many clients find it to be a helpful addition to their work with their therapist.

When we work together individually, we may share group work as an option for you and we can talk over the advantages and disadvantages of joining.

» How do I join a therapy group?

We do an intake appointment for our groups and while we would love for you to take part, an intake does not guarantee admission into a group. Admission is dependent on readiness and presenting issue.

If we feel that our group is not the best fit for you after the intake, we will do our best to connect you to other referrals.

» What can I expect in group therapy?

Groups typically:

  • Run for cycles of 8-10 weeks
  • Meet once a week,
  • Consist of no more than 8 individuals — each of whom has gone through our intake process to ensure that they are a good fit.

We use CBT in our group settings so you will work on developing skills and evaluating negative patterns together. You will have the benefits of meeting with a therapist while also getting peer support and understanding from those who also struggle similarly.
