Maybe I’ll just finish it later …

We've all been there. You know you should do something ... but you'd rather do anything else.

There are an infinite number of ways to procrastinate, from reading to TV, video games, social media, hanging out with friends, staring off into space, cooking, shopping, and beyond.

Or, you might procrastinate by doing something less pleasurable. It’s amazing how motivated you become to clean the house or run errands when there’s something “more important” you should be doing.

While occasional procrastination is usually harmless in the grand scheme of life, continued procrastination can cause many problems, including:

  • Difficulty holding or finding a job
  • Trouble maintaining friendships and romantic relationships
  • Inability going to or finishing school
  • Lack of promotions or forward movement in a career
  • Poor grades in school
  • Struggles with mandatory housework (laundry, dishes, etc.)

Whatever form your procrastination takes, we can help!

let's find out if we're a good fit.

How can therapy help with procrastination?

When we procrastinate, it usually has to do with the perceptions we have around the task at hand. For instance, if you have to write a report, you may be thinking “this is going to take forever.” Before you know it, a feeling of dread sweeps across your body and you find yourself watching one more episode on Netflix.

In therapy, you will learn to recognize these types of thinking patterns and evaluate them more effectively. Together, we will develop healthy new skills and techniques to help avoid procrastination, which you will also practice at home. Together, we will work to:

  • Change your perception of each task
  • Prioritize tasks
  • Create small steps to get you closer to a task’s completion
  • Use positive reinforcement to reward yourself when you complete a task.
